It is with deep regret that after consultation between me, Trevor and Clare we have come to the conclusion that the Bergen Relay 2011 is to be cancelled. The support in the form of participants is seriously lacking throughout the relay route, though we have had some dedicated, registered riders from the outset that will be as disappointed as ourselves it has to be cancelled. We have not come to this decision lightly but without enough registered participants it is not viable to start the relay or we run the very real risk of it failing part way through. We did have two riders planning to run the entire relay but we cannot rely on them to complete the event alone as there may be mechanical/fatigue issues that could again compromise the success of the relay.
Any participants who have registered and paid are fully entitled to a refund of their fees and should contact us with their details, alternatively the monies can be transferred to the Forces Children’s Trust as the intended beneficiaries of the relay. If you require your fees refunding, please contact us prior to Saturday 27th (intended relay start), if we have not heard from you, we will arrange for the money to be transferred to the charity.
May we take this opportunity to send our heartfelt thanks to those who have helped and supported us thus far and profoundly apologise to those registered riders who we may feel let down, we have done our utmost, and put a huge amount of time, work and effort into the organisation of this event, but we would rather cancel the event, than run it and fail, which I'm sure you will all understand.
Yours regrettably
The Crew
